I wasn’t one of the flourishing kids at school.
To have achieved a whopping 83% was a big achievement for our family.
No matter how much effort, or study went into some subjects, I just could not reach my potential. My lovely high achieving friend would ask; “What did you get?” (showing my 67% mark) “That’s really good!” Seeing her 99% score made my stomach drop to the floor. Then the self-doubt and negative chatter would set in; . . . I am stupid . . . I am not good enough . . . starts to manifest.
Then of course you can blame someone else.
I loved this technique because I was able to put my own issues onto the teacher. For myself, science was my most difficult subject so I made it my mission to hate the teacher and pretend that I couldn’t learn because they were such a pain in my ass. All of this negative chatter starts to manifest in our minds. Usually resulting in emotional blockages which stops us from being successful. Simply because we have created negative emotions around learning at a sub-conscious level. This is why subjects you love, seem so easy, because the positive emotions that are associated with that subject are facilitating you to enjoy the process.
My Mum also struggled in school and believed that the school system is “messed up” and we learn things that are totally irrelevant to the “real world” (whatever that is). This belief system was then passed down to me. Just like other beliefs can; racial beliefs, sexual beliefs, work ethic beliefs. This is why kids with workaholic parent/s may grow up to be workaholics themselves. They have observed their parent/s working long hours which they believe is normal and a balance between work, rest and play is not important.
So. . . How can we be better learners?
For us to achieve this, I believe there are two main elements.
We need to clear any emotional blockages to learning. This is on a sub-conscious and conscious level – as Kinesiologists, we are able to help find the imbalance or stresses around learning and then help relieve some of those stresses. We also work to reframe negative chatter with positive affirmations or words. For the learner to truly achieve this, they need to repeat these positive belief systems over time so it becomes the new normal.
The second element is brain integration. There are many ways a Kinesiologist can assist you to be more integrated which will optimise your brains’ potential. Basically, learning will be easier when you are operating in the “midline” meaning your brain is communicating with the left and right hemispheres most efficiently.

So, if you are experiencing a learning difficulty or know someone who is, then I would recommend booking an appointment with a Kinesiologist. In the meantime, start asking yourself or the learner; why don’tyou enjoy learning? What is it about learning that you find stressful? Or, how can I make learning more fun for myself?
